Obtaining DEM Data Files
In Indiana, 2005 DEM data is available for download from the state with 5 ft per pixel horizontal resolution. Click here for more information. You have several options for obtaining this data. See some of these options listed below:
Option 1
Go to https://spatialdata.iu.edu/DOQQS/inmap05/elev/cty_mosaic/utm/ and download a large tiff of your county. For some counties this may be 2 or 3 files. The downside to this option is that these images are in a UTM projection and you will have to use some type of image processing software to reproject them before they can be used in your state plane map.
Option 2
Go to http://www.indiana.edu/~gisdata/isdptool.html and download the Multi-file Download tool from Indiana Spatial data Portal. This tool can be used to download a few hundred smaller TIF's that make up your county. The advantage to this approach is that these files are already projected in the appropriate indiana state plane and therefore need no further processing. However you can only download the files one quarter quad at a time and so it can take a while to get them all.
Option 3
For a small price WTH can download this data for your county, reproject it to match your state plane, and deliver it to you with a map layer ready to use.
